Hello Potential Future Colleague,
My name is Francis Sanchez, I was recently laid off and am currently on a quest to find what’s next. Assuming you have landed here in whole or in part because I have appeared in your LinkedIn feed or applied for a role within your organization. I wanted to take this moment to introduce myself and provide personality and context alongside my resume.
For over a decade my career has leaned in the direction of digital marketing, influencer content production, and social media strategy. No matter how you shuffle those words around, you land within the same ballpark. You could also say that my career has leaned toward digital strategy, influencer marketing, and social media content production. Since 2010, I have fulfilled a variety of roles working on branded YouTube channels, building out channel strategy, voice, and content plans across all the popular social media platforms. On the flip side, I have also worked with digital marketing agencies, building out pitch decks, concepting content ideas, drafting influencer strategies, discovering and sourcing talent, and ushering organic and paid digital campaigns to life.
My career began to take shape at a time when I was living in Los Angeles and my only goal seemed to be survival — to continue to afford living in Los Angeles. With each new position and shift in my career I proved that I had the capacity to grow into versatile roles, adapt to different challenges, and learn to wear a multitude of hats. In effect, I embraced a career that has molded me into a jack of all trades.
As luck would have it, this is my third time standing on this side of a layoff. What feels different this time is the confidence that my next role has the capacity to be an outlier and game changer. While all of my previous roles have built on each other and have provided me with a myriad of professional and personal experiences, there have always been moments where I felt that my truest talents and potential were not being challenged or put to use.
This open letter is my way of putting it out into the universe that I would appreciate the opportunity to pivot into a role that utilizes my writing talents (creative or otherwise), employs my degree in film & video (screenwriting/editing), and/or exercises my interests in graphic design. While it might seem like a stretch, I truly believe that the next position I find myself in will only benefit from the professional knowledge and skills I have acquired over the past fourteen years.
