A minute comment on this historic day

Political bias, cliché euphemisms and redundant anecdotes aside. Let the hype of the moment swell and rest. Step back and look at the large picture. Assess, appreciate and aspire. For me this day is a grand-scale reminder of the minute moments in my life where I have felt, as I am sure many of us have, like the unappreciated underdog; as if my existence and my struggle were of no consequence.

This moment is a beautiful, understood and welcomed reminder that in this life there is nothing but possibility. I understand that we as a people, across the board, are different. Our fingerprints can attest to that. But in this moment and in the moments yet to come, it should serve us better to focus on the things that we have in common; the truths that bind us together; the inevitable reality that we are alike in our desire to live freely in pursuit of happiness.

This moment offers us a chance to reflect, recompose and recommit ourselves to the people that we want to be. There is only so much that words can say, only so much weight that words can withstand before they need to be reinforced with actions. This moment can not be seen as a day that belongs to one man. This can not be seen as a responsibility that he has solely inherited. This moment requires that each one of us takes substantial and essential personal, mental and fiscal responsibility for ourselves; that we might then find in ourselves the spiritual fortitude and the intellectual capacity to better our livelihood for ourselves and each other.

If we are indeed a people, if we are to commit to the ideals and the capabilities of a people, if we are thus moved to act and change and grow than we must allow this moment to ignite within ourselves nothing less than a desire to progress. This can not simply be a day of heightened expectations, it has to be a day that cultivates perpetual long-term results. With that in mind, assess your own life, in all its various appendages, be mindful of your input and output, be thankful and aware of the opportunities that living in this country affords you but do not take them for granted. If we want to experience real change, then we should take some time to run inventory control in our personal lives and to make better the things that we can control.

This message carries with it no political affiliation, nor does it promote an agenda, it is written simply to express my own personal desire to see growth within the country that birthed me and loved me for all the things that I could not change. Go forth, aspire and do something positive.

Relax.
